Proposition 8 was on the ballot here in California last Tuesday. It was an amendment to the state constitution, saying that marriage was to be defined as only between a man and a woman. The intent was to make homosexual marriage illegal in California. It passed.

I have some mixed feelings about it, mostly because I think Christians are overly-focused on the evils of the homosexual lifestyle, while ignoring many of the other sins of society.

Since the election, relatively small groups of homosexual activists have been protesting, demanding tolerance and acceptance of gay marriage. Only, it seems that the tolerance only goes one way. Watch what happens when an elderly lady tries to express a differing opinion:

Should Down syndrome babies be aborted?

Since John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his running-mate, there has been an ugly conversation going on among some people in this country. The conversation is about Trig, the Palin's baby who has Down syndrome. There is a segment of people who think the Palins should have aborted this baby because of his condition. I think Christians need to be aware that this thinking is out there, even if it's just a small section of the population.

This writer, who also writes columns for the Washington Times and The Atlanta Journal Constitution, makes the argument that aborting Down syndrome kids is the right thing to do because they are a drain and burden on society. He goes so far as to say, "...it is crucial to reaffirm the morality of aborting a fetus diagnosed with Down syndrome (or by extension, any unborn fetus)..." (emphasis mine).

The danger in believing that aborting Down syndrome kids, or any kids with birth defects, should be obvious. It makes an assumption, mainly that some people have value, and some don't. Clearly, to the writer of this post, people with disabilities are a burden. And it's OK to eliminate people who are burdens.

There is an underlying assumption also, that people don't have worth just because they are people. Their worth has to be granted by someone else. But who grants worth? The government? We've tried that, in Germany and other places. It didn't work out so well.

In fact, there is only one objective for giving equal value or worth to every human being: each of us is God's special creation. That gives us worth that can't be taken away by any government, or any self-important writer.

As Christians, we should be on the forefront of the fight to see that each person is treated as valuable and worthwhile. This applies to people with special needs, of course. But it applies equally to anybody who is considered "less than" or worthless.

We can't look to political leaders to protect the rights of these people. We do have one presidential candidate who pays lip service to helping the "least of these." But I'm afraid that doesn't apply to everyone, especially the unborn. It's up to those of us who really see human life as valuable to do all we can to see to it that no one is left out when we say that "all men are created equal..."

Abortion as big business...

As much as I dislike politicians (especially this whiner and this snake), I gotta commend one that's got it right. Michelle Bachman is a congressman (woman? person? human?) from Minnesota. She gave this speech in the House chamber last week:


She's got it right: abortion is big business. Planned Parenthood brings in a ton of money every year to kill unborn babies. They get millions in government grants to carry on their nasty business. Then they funnel campaign contributions back to the same politicians who help them get their grants. It's all very convenient.

Who loses? The babies of course. But since they can't give large campaign donations, they aren't considered.

And Bachman brings up a good point: every dollar that goes to Planned Parenthood Is a dollar that won't go to centers that try to help women who are going through crisis pregnancies. That means it's up to those of us who value life to pick up the slack. This is a good place to send your money if you want to support a great pregnancy resource center...

Something else homeschooled kids miss out on...

...quality personnel in the schools. Look at this. I can't even form words to describe it...

China "welcomes" the world (just don't get out of line...)

CNN published this story on its website today. China has released a document detailing what foreigners can and can't do when they visit during the summer Olympics. (Olympic slogan: "One world, One dream.") Some of the highlights:

• no protests without government approval (they don't even let their own people protest, let alone foreigners),
• Tibet is completely closed to visitors (I thought the Tibetan people were very happy to be part of China),
• people with "mental diseases" cannot enter the country (sorry Michelle!),
• all foreigners must register at the local police station within 24 hours of arriving,
  
• no banners or displays at the venues that "disrupt the public order (so much for free speech),
• visitors can't bring in any materials "that are harmful to China's politics, economics, culture and morals". Does that include Bibles?

Basically, they don't want anyone to embarrass them in any way. So, if you go, please don't mention their religious persecution, their support of the murderers who run Sudan, or their occupation of Tibet. And also keep in mind that war is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength.



p.s.--There's actually no proof that Michelle has "mental disease." Although some of us have wondered...

I forgot to add this to the last post. This article talks about the Chinese government has arrested several Chinese Christians who were trying to send aid to help the people who are suffering because of the earthquake. Their crime? They don't go to the official church.

I'm so happy that the summer Olympics are coming soon. We should all join in the celebration of how modern and progressive China has become...

TMZ is a web site that focuses on celebrity gossip. I never look at it, because I have better things to do with my time than wonder about the lives of pampered, overpaid, self-important people. But they ran a story yesterday where they ripped some guy named Andy Baldwin (who I think was on a reality TV show).

The activity that they found so objectionable? He was on a Navy mission to find remains of an airplane that went down during World War 2. It seems the US military spends about $52 million each year looking for missing military personnel. They call this search "such BS" and a "ridiculous waste."

Think about it: each year, we spend about 18 cents per citizen to find out what happened to men and women who gave their lives to protect our freedoms. And TMZ thinks this is a waste of time.
TMZ, of course, knows what's important. I mean, when you spend your life doing something really vital to society, like taking pictures of Paris Hilton, you have a good handle on what matters in life. These military searches provide answers for families who wonder, sometimes for decades, what happened to their loved ones. That certainly isn't as important as knowing what Britney Spears is doing.

I do have one word of advice for TMZ: stick to videos of drunken, drug-addled losers. Leave the righteous indignation to someone else...

The spirit of Margaret Sanger lives on!

Margaret Sanger was a thoroughly evil human. She was a champion of negative eugenics, the belief that less "fit" races, like blacks, hispanics and Asians, should have their breeding limited through mandatory birth control, abortion and forced sterilization. She started a pro-birth control organization that was the predecessor of Planned Parenthood.

Although much of the radical feminist movement considers her a hero, the truth is she was evil, and her evil influence continues on through Planned Parenthood. I just found this audio of someone prank calling Planned Parenthood offices, and saying horribly racist things to see how the PP people would react.

Watch it, but let me warn you: you're likely to get really angry, and a little sick. Also, the subject isn't really kid-friendly, so be warned...



By the way, if you're wondering, PP is funded by your tax dollars. I'm sure you are as happy about that as I am.

Is George W. bush an accessory to a rape?

Recently I posted about something GW Bush had done during his presidency--namely, his stance on embryonic stem cells. But I also need to point out what I believe to be the biggest of GW's many failures as president.

At a time when national security is supposed to be the number one priority for his administration, GWB has refused to guard our nation's borders on all four sides. I can't imagine why he won't enforce the country's laws. He takes great pride in saying we're fighting terror oversees. Yet we know that every year thousands of people from terror-sponsoring countries (like Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.) come into the country illegally. Where are they? Who are they? Why are they here? We don't know, because we have no way to track them.

Some people think that illegal immigration is just an economic problem. And we do spend billions of dollars every year on social services for illegal aliens. But there is also a real human toll associated with the problem, and it usually goes unreported (or underreported) by the media.

This story is a telling example of what I mean. It tells of a woman whose car broke down on the freeway recently. She was viciously raped by a guy who was arrested several days later. He's here illegally, and has apparently been arrested before. Every year, thousands of violent crimes are committed in the US by people who shouldn't be here in the first place. (This congressional report lays out the facts pretty clearly. Look especially at the section entitled "Illegal Alien Crimes Against US citizens.")

To me, every time an illegal immigrant commits a crime in this country, GWB is responsible. He let them in the country, and he's responsible for what they do. Including the rapes, murders, and molestations.

Now, is every illegal immigrant a violent criminal? Of course not! Only a moron would suggest that. But, how many violent criminals should we be bringing on from other countries? Don't we have enough American criminals?

I don't know GWB's reasons for not securing the borders of this country. I suspect they have to do with providing cheap labor for his manufacturing buddies, and a desire to ease in a globalist agenda. But he needs to know that there is a human cost for what he's done. And GWB's bad decisions have resulted in one more shattered life...
